A Curious Look Into The Weird And Wonderful Life Of Electropop Music Superstar Grimes

Claire Elise Boucher, more popularly known to the world as Grimes, is a very interesting individual to say the least. Never failing to attract a substantial amount of attention from popular media due to her unorthodox personality which has given birth to memorable moments in recent times such as naming her son X Æ A-XII whom she shares with the similarly famous tech billionaire and Tesla founder Elon Musk. However, beyond the Internet craze the singer seems to constantly generate, Grimes boasts a spectacular record as a musician which has lasted for years and will continue to last for the years to come. Here is a quick rundown on the mysterious artist’s weird and wonderful life.

Life Before Fame

Brought up in Vancouver, British Columbia, the Canadian vocalist toyed with the idea of making music from an early age when she attended the Lord Byng Secondary School – an educational institution known for its music programs. However, Boucher was only able to seriously consider a career in music after enrolling in the McGill University to study neuroscience. Obviously, this endeavor did not last long as she began to explore opportunities in performing and recording music, which eventually played a big role in Boucher’s expulsion from the university after gradually skipping classes to the point of only showing up to take the exams. Also, it was during Boucher’s stay in the university that she came up with the iconic ‘Grimes’ moniker after stumbling upon grime music – a sub-genre of electronic music, on the social networking website Myspace.

Rise To Popularity

Embracing her new persona in its entirety after the release of her second album Halfaxa, Grimes began touring around different locations in Canada and North America and striking up deals with several record labels and producers such as Blood Diamonds, who has worked with similarly famous artists such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
However, the biggest break came for Grimes in 2012 with the release of her highly acclaimed electronic pop album Visions which effortlessly soared through the charts, bagging multiple accolades such as an inclusion in NME’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2013 and the Junos Electronic Album of the Year Award which all led to Grimes being granted the prestigious title of Artist of the Year during the 2013 Webby Awards.

Current Status and Relationships

Unsurprisingly, Grimes continues to ride the waves of success even after the massive breakthrough of Visions, with hit songs such as ‘Kill V. Maim’ and ‘Venus Fly’ featured on a similarly lauded album entitled Art Angels receiving unanimous approval from critics and highly coveted nominations from prestigious awarding bodies in the music industry. In 2018, Grimes was confirmed to be in a relationship with entrepreneur Elon Musk, whom she met on the social media platform Twitter.
And on the same year, Grimes legally changed her first name from Claire to c, as in the symbol for the speed of light, at the encouragement of Musk. Things seem to be going well for the Canadian star so far especially in the year 2020 which saw not only the birth of her first child X Æ A-XII, but also the release of her fifth album, Miss Anthropocene. In contrast, 2021 has been a slightly rocky year for the singer as she recently announced that she “finally” has COVID-19 and that she is “weirdly enjoying the DayQuil fever dream”.
