Until official release announcements are made, any sighting of the Tesla Semi truck in the wild will send the shutterbugs scrambling for their phones and create a buzz on the internet.

The latest sighting of the electric unicorn took place in Tahoe. This follows two other recent sightings in Sacramento and Chicago, suggesting we are fast approaching the release date for the Tesla truck.

The truck involved in the Tahoe sighting apparently looks newly built and has some features not seen on the Sacramento and Chicago prototypes, suggesting it is an updated version. The wheels were black. There was a hefty box attached on the back, purpose unknown.

The truck seemed to be on its way to the Bay Area, according to the spotter.

We heard previously that Tesla would be would producing four units for testing. Two would be used for road tests, one for testing cold weather conditions and another less fortunate one for safety tests.

The Sacramento Semi was the first sighting this year. It had a white paint job and silver tires and parts that were obviously upgrades from the ones on the trucks Tesla had previously unveiled, which included windows, door handles and tail lights. Even though it looked good enough for production to the untrained eye, the Semi sighted in Chicago had slight differences. More cables appeared on the back, connected to a large box.

This latest sighting apparently is the third of the prototypes, meaning there could be yet another one. Hold on to your phones guys.

The initial release date was 2019 but we could be getting near a final version of the Tesla Semi as there are reports that production will start this year, reaching 100 units per week. Production has been confirmed Elon Musk to take place at the Austin Gigafactory in Texas. But sources say pilot production will start in July.
