Ever since Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker came out the game has reached insane numbers and hit all kinds of records. Now with any new game a pretty quick “drop off curve” is expected, but this is where many people’s expectations didn’t become reality. The game has continued to gain a steady stream of new players and many of the servers has been overcrowded to a point where players have seen queues up towards 10k+. We’re now two weeks away from the release and the increase in players does not seem to be stopping.
In a newly published article by Naoki Yoshida, the producer & director of FFXIV apologizes for the launch issues that early access players has experienced. Naoki starts the article of by saying that players will be rewarded/compensated with 14 extra days of free game time, setting the total compensated game-time to 3 weeks.
The most surprising thing that Naoki Yoshida mentioned that will be done to prevent the overcrowding is to completely stop selling the game, something pretty much unheard of. The free version will also be limited to play during low player number days. These changes will gradually be rolling out over the coming days.
Naoki also talks about stopping most of their advertisement of the game, with some exceptions where contracts and agreements are in place.
They also go through and speak on some of the code-related bugs that players have been experiencing over the past two weeks.
In the same article mentioned above, they explain that back in july 2021 they had started work on a new logical datacenter to account for the increase in the numbers of new players, but due to the worldwide covid-19 effects and delays in the production of semiconductors, these plans have been heavily delayed. They hope by the end of January of 2022 to have a complete roadmap done.
So for the people who has been having issues might have to wait a significant amount of time to be able to play like normal again and depending on how covid pans out it might be many months left.
