Charli Grace D’Amelio joined TikTok in the spring of 2019, posting short dance routines often from her bedroom. She has more than six billion likes and eighty-two million followers on TikTok making her the biggest creator on the platform!!! Charli is a trained competitive dancer and danced for ten years before becoming the TikTok Queen. She has the perfect components of TikTok dance performance: Hand movements, expressions, and fluid timing. Her dancing style is natural, self-assured, and relaxed. Charli is a soft-spoken suburban girl who has become this TikTok idol almost overnight.
Dixie D’Amelio is Charli’s older sister and fellow TikTok influencer. Read a full article about Dixie here! Her mother is Heidi, a homemaker, and father; Marc, is a clothing entrepreneur and politician. She was born on May 1, 2004, in Norwalk, Connecticut, United States.
Charli D’Amelio creates all kinds of dancing videos like original dances, goofy dances, solo, and group dances, choreographed dances, and trending dances, to name a few. Mostly these are filmed in her ordinary bedroom and her dad Marc makes sure that she makes the bed first.
It is the reason why people like her videos so much because she is so relatable, and the youngsters feel like she’s a peer. She has been on TikTok for a little more than a year and has gained unbelievable fame and followers.
Charli D’Amelio began dancing at the age of three and learned ballet, tap, and hip-hop. She had heard about TikTok from classmates but didn’t give it too much thought. She says,
“My life before TikTok was very normal. I would go to school, go to dance, do my homework and go to bed. It was pretty much like every other teenager’s life.”
She had a vision board in her bedroom, with a photo of Jennifer Lopez pinned on it, whom she had wanted to dance with since she was 12.
Charli posted her first video on TikTok on March 30, 2019. It was a simple lip-syncing gag with a friend, and she filmed it horizontally, while TikTok videos typically appear vertically.
“I never really expected anyone to see my videos other than my friends,” she said.
Then one day in July, on her way to dance class, she posted a side-by-side video of herself following the dance moves of “Move with Joy.” and suddenly, she had 2,000 followers on TikTok.
Charli makes around seven videos a day. She joined the Hype House in Los Angeles, along with her sister Dixie D’Amelio. It is a collective of online creators who often collaborate to create content. She later left when it became a business.
“Literally everybody on the Internet sees Charli as just like a normal girl. They look at her, and they’re like ‘Oh, my gosh, I could do that, too.’”
