The real reason why Charli D’Amelio ghosted James Charles

We have all seen the collaborations between James and the D’Amelio sisters on youtube, they are very entertaining videos but they don’t fully show the relationship between the stars. In their latest video collab, James Charles admitted that his first impression of Charli wasn’t good, because she didn’t respond to his messages “like three of them” according to him.

Charli then said that she was actually scared of James and didn’t want to respond to the messages, even after telling her parents about it, in her own words “I was terrified, you were the first person that reached out to me like let’s collab”.

This detail about their relationship is really endearing since they are both very well known and James was surprised to hear about Charli’s fears of meeting him.

It might seem hard to imagine someone leaving James Charles on delivered, but there is another aspect of that video, which many people noticed in the comments, that might help explain this situation better.  

Charli’s rise to fame and childhood stars

Something a lot of people seem to forget is the fact that Charli is just a child, being 15 at the time James messaged her, while she was rapidly becoming the most famous person on Tik Tok. The amount of pressure someone in that position must be dealing with is hard to imagine. 

She went from a local dancer to a household name in less than a year, and the consequences of that can be seen in her behavior with James and in the new video. 

“Is it just me or are James and Dixie talking while Charli just sits there quiet?” This is one of the many comments under that video that point to Charli’s introverted and shy nature coming out in the collab. 

This seems to be just her real personality that isn’t the bubbly self that posts 5 Tik Toks a day for her huge audience, and some people think that this introversion is just getting worse with her fame.

After all, Charli can’t do much without receiving criticism from adults and other people on social media, so in every interview and collab, she just answers the questions and keeps to herself. Even after her nose surgery, which she needed because of a broken nose, many people criticized her and suggested she was doing it for cosmetic reasons. 

Taking all of that into account, it becomes much easier to see why Charli was scared to collab with James and put herself out there more, she is just a young, shy dancer wanting to have fun with her audience and not exposed more of her life than what’s needed. 

Her sister, for example, being 18 is much more comfortable on camera and next to James. You can imagine that is because she knows how to deal with that pressure better for being older, and is more willing to expose her thoughts and speak out. 

This conversation is important because more people need to realize that people who are famous also have their insecurities and “irrational” fears that can get worse because of a negative and unnecessary comment.
