The real reason why Joe Rogan is leaving L.A for Texas

Los Angeles is known for being the “influencer land”, home to all new social media personalities, the place where people live to be considered relevant. So, it makes sense for the host of one of the most popular podcasts in the world, Joe Rogan to live in Los Angeles, right?

Well, at least he used to but in a recent podcast with Joe de Sena, Rogan officially stated he will be moving to Texas “soon”.

This article will talk about all the reasons he gave for the change.

Rogan’s motives

• Poor administration of the city

According to the host, LA is an overcrowded city and the officials are not able to handle this problem effectively, causing excessive traffic, homelessness, and economic despair that is accelerating rapidly over the years.

In his own words: “I think there are just too many people here. I think is not tenable, I don’t think is manageable and I think every mayor does a bad job of doing because I don’t think anyone can do a great job of it”

This criticism is not new, since Rogan has also discussed the “decline of LA” with Ben Shapiro in his podcast. Shapiro, who grew up in Los Angeles, also shares the same views about the economic issues the city is going through.

• Freedom and people

One of the main reasons why Joe has been talking about Texas for so long in his podcast is the freedom and politeness of the people there. According to him, Texians are cordial and friendly, but they can also do whatever they want without a lot of rules because of how isolated some areas are.  

• Traveling

Rogan also mentions how it is harder to travel when he lives in LA, that’s because the city is located in the west and he regularly needs to travel east for work. Texas on the other hand is located in the middle of the country, making it easier to go anywhere.

• Comedy

Joe Rogan has a past with stand up comedy and is still very involved in comedic shows and panels. His first comedic CD was recorded in Texas, and according to him, people in Texas are much more involved in this type of entertainment. 

Additional motive for Joe Rogan’s move

Rogan has been talking about moving for over a year in his podcast, mentioning all the reasons above to justify his dissatisfaction with “The Land of Dreams” and his love for Texas, but it’s also possible that there is a monetary motive behind this.

As we all probably know, Joe has signed a deal with Spotify that is going to make him around 40 million dollars a year, and that might be one reason why the transfer between states was hurried. What does the deal have to do with that? Well, taxes.

In LA, if you make more than 1 million dollars a year, you have to pay 13.3% of that amount to state income tax alone, which is not even counting the federal income tax. If Joe is going to be making 40 million a year, that is more than 5 million dollars a year in income taxes.

While Texas has a 0% income tax. You heard it right, if Joe moves there before his money from Spotify comes through he will be saving around 21 million dollars in 4 years, and who wouldn’t want that? He still will be paying other types of taxes, but the amount of money he is saving is still incredible.
